Live Healthier With Vitamins & Minerals

The average American seems to do all he or she can to attain a longer, more prosperous and healthier life.

There are a host of reasons to encourage the use of essential supplements to reduce the severity of chronic illnesses and to extend lifespan among the general consensus. In regards to this, there are two vast concepts: the first is that genes perform an important role in the overall picture of health and individual longevity. This is quite obvious because individuals have a tendency to develop similar symptoms of sickness of their ancestors.

The second vast concept is that we can control our destiny to a certain degree, for the simple reason that environmental conditions, like nutrition, play a vital part in overall health. An inadequate consumption of specific vitamins and minerals is a major aspect of the modern diet.

Although genes may play an important role in deciding whether we live an extended, healthy life, within the confinements that are imposed by genes, good nutritional habits can definitely influence health.

Today we eat rather well, considering that only a few nutrient-dense nuts, fruits and vegetables are consumed regularly. We are not only under tremendous physical and psychological strain that our ancestors never dreamed about, but even if we had a balanced food diet intake, our food has less nutrition to begin with due to using synthetic chemicals. Furthermore, it is processed and stored within one inch of its life.

Vitamins make up one of several major groups of nutrients essential for health. They regulate chemical reactions by which the body changes food into energy and living tissues. A chemical compound that the human body needs in small doses, the vitamin is a fundamental part of the enzymes. Enzymes act as a catalyst in the chemical reactions of the human body that helps digest our food. More importantly, they are what cause things to occur, and occur faster. In short, without vitamins, the enzymes can't perform their duties.

Minerals are not produced by animals and plants; therefore, they are inorganic. Like the vitamin, a mineral functions as coenzymes, affording chemical reactions to perform throughout the entire body. Minerals belong in two groups: the macro- minerals and the micro-minerals. The macro-minerals consist of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus.

The micro-minerals consist of copper, iron, zinc and beron; as well as potassium, iodine, selenium, chromium and maganese. Stored primarily in muscle and bone tissue, minerals are in various parts of the body. It is also likely to overdose on minerals if the intake is of very large amounts.

Smart Brain Strategies And Nutrients

When your body grows older, so does your brain. Difficulty remembering every day things like where you left your car keys, personal phone numbers you call frequently, or even day-to-day choices can accelerate brain aging.

A state of depression is said to exist when the brain tries to face a stressful emotional problem, and finds it difficult to cope with other attention-demanding actions at the same time. The occurrence can become so all-absorbing as to incapacitate the individual. Over time this stressful drain on brain activity can produce different symptoms that are labeled illnesses according to how a person behaves.

You need to be concerned when memory loss or emotional stress begins to interfere with daily functioning. Forgetting where you are going after you get in your automobile to travel, or forgetting why you went to the store. Problems associated with social functioning such as fear, anxiety, persistent emotional and relationship troubles are cause for concern as well.

Several factors can inhibit normal brain functioning these include: insomnia, anxiety, depression, stroke, dementia, and Alzheimer's disease. By age 50, blood flow to the brain can be reduced by 20 percent. Reduced blood flow translates to less oxygen and nutrients going to your brain.
Other saboteurs in memory loss include:

attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) diabetes, thyroid disease, failure of the lungs, liver, or kidneys prescription medications vitamin B12 deficit alcoholism infections such as encephalitis and meningitis

So how can you improve your brain functioning? Smarter lifestyle and nutrient changes can affect the way you remember, think, feel, and behave.

Get moving with physical activity by exercising regularly. Avoid social isolation and get a little help from your friends. Learn something new, work some crossword or jigsaw puzzles, read something besides fiction, these and other mental activities will stimulate cognitive functioning.
Relax often, try some meditation. Meditation relieves stress and memory problems. When stress levels are high the hormone "cortisol" is released causing impaired brain functioning by getting our blood sugar levels off balance.

Put some smarter nutrients to work for you. Your brain loves balanced nutrients just like the rest of your body does. Eat more fish and more fresh fruits and vegetables. Use supplements that promote healthy brain and body functioning. Omega-3 is definitely one healthy brain nutrient, and you can supplement with a high grade fish oil. Botanicals like garlic, ginkgo, green and black teas are powerful medicines as well.

Most people will overlook this one, and I believe it is more important than everything I have mentioned so far. Be sure to keep your brain hydrated, by drinking at the very minimum of two quarts of water each day, more is even better!

Avoid excessive caffeine, alcoholic, and sugary beverages, these keep you in a state of dehydration. Persistent memory and emotional problems are the results of a water deficiency that have become so severe, that brain tissue is damaged.

When we begin to understand the main causes of stress in our brains and bodies, we will then begin to understand the importance that pure water has on our brains and other bodily systems. By learning that dehydration ALONE puts us in a stressful state of being, and that stressful state of being in turn causes further dehydration within us, we can learn to avoid sickness.

By keeping your brain properly hydrated you can most definitely put the brakes on this vicious cycle, and when you do, you will discover one of the best well kept secrets that modern medicine has kept from you to improve your health.

Vitamin K: One More Reason To Eat A Good Breakfast

Everyone from dieticians to Tony the Tiger to our moms have told us that eating a good breakfast is the best way to ensure a positive start to the day. Turns out, one of the nutrients your body needs, vitamin K, is found in two items that are usually a little lower on the list of nutritious breakfast foods: bacon and coffee.

If you prefer tea with your morning meal, vitamin K can be found in green tea as well. It's also in cheese and liver. That doesn't mean you shouldn't eat your vegetables, too, it's also found in leafy vegetables, broccoli, and asparagus. Vitamin K is also produced in the intestines.

Vitamin K is a fat soluble vitamin, which means that toxicity may be an issue if you take it in high doses. This is unlikely through food sources, but can occur if you take a supplement with K3, a synthetic form of vitamin K known as menadione.

Short term symptoms of vitamin K toxicity are sweating and flushing. Over time, jaundice or anemia can occur. Even though vitamin K is fat soluble though, the body does not store as much of it as it does other vitamins, and you have to make sure that you take enough in consistently. While the body doesn't store much vitamin K, it does use it quite efficiently, recycling it and using it for the same process more than once.

Vitamin K plays a large role in blood clotting, in fact blood cannot clot without it, and symptoms of vitamin K deficiency include frequent nosebleeds and bruises that heal slowly. If you are taking large doses of vitamin A or vitamin E, these can interfere with the body's ability to absorb vitamin K.

Because vitamin K facilitates clotting, people who have had problems with blood clots, such as heart attacks or strokes, need to be careful about how much vitamin K they get in their diet, especially if they are on the blood thinning medication coumadin (the generic name for this medication is warfarin).

They should still make sure they get the recommended daily allowance (RDA) to avoid other bleeding problems, but should watch consumption levels of foods high in vitamin K, as it can reduce the effectiveness of their medication. Some research has indicated that vitamin K also helps maintain bone strength, especially in older people.

Multivitamins - A Ticket to Daily Health

An increasingly number of the world's population is now eager and interested in looking after their health and in keeping tune with their well-being. It is important to note that this awareness is progressively contributing to the creation of several health supplements to benefit both the adults and the young ones. Dietary and vitamin supplements have constantly proven their worth to health conscious individuals.

An excellent daily multivitamin supplement does not only develop your general bodily functions but also improves your mental and physical condition and well being. Occasionally specification is needed in appropriately supplementing nutrients to deal with any individual needs. An example would be in heart disease patients, they would have to take in CoQ10 in preventing the said condition. Alzheimer's disease can be effectively prevented by a regular combination of Vitamin C and E intake.

Multivitamin supplements necessarily include all the vitamins and nutrients essential for recommended daily dosage. Multivitamin supplements may also be formulated to meet the needs of individual conditions like pregnancy and specific age brackets. It is a well settled fact that multivitamins in liquid form are more efficient than the ordinary pill forms. This is due to the fact that the body can easily absorb liquid nutrients five times more than ordinary multivitamins in tablet or capsule form.

Basically, the body needs 13 essential vitamins to function properly. In regulating the crucial performance of the body, it has to have vitamins A, B, C, D, E, K, B12, and the 7 B-complex vitamins. Majority of these vitamins are obtained by our body through the food that we eat. The danger of illness or even mortality is in the deficiency of some of the essential vitamins. This is where vitamin supplementation comes in.

It counteracts the illness caused by such deficiency. With this fact, it is very unlikely for someone to refuse vitamin supplementation on a daily basis. So the question now is, why is it necessary for individuals to take multivitamins when majority of our daily diet can provide us with the basic nutrients we need? It may not be compulsory, but everyone can profit from daily multivitamins.

As previously mentioned, the clear benefit of daily intake of multivitamins it to prevent vitamin/nutrient deficiency. Some personal circumstances may increase dietary needs. Pregnant women, during their first trimester, are recommended by their doctors to take multivitamins. This does not only provide the mothers with sufficient nutrition but also proper vitamins to benefit the unborn child inside their womb.

Taking multivitamins everyday reduces the risk of transmitting malnutrition from a pregnant woman to her unborn baby. Other conditions such as old age, alcoholism, smoking, and exposure to excessive pollution have long-term detrimental effects to the body system which can be successfully counteracted by multivitamins.

Stress is also one risk factor which needs serious supplementation that multivitamins can provide. Especially with people who have so much to do and have a hard time in keeping up with their health needs, multivitamins are a must to keep them always on the go without any health complications in the long run. Stress formulations benefit both your mental ability and daily endurance. Aside from the mentioned benefits, daily multivitamins also minimize the risk of cancer or any cardiovascular disease.

Several people, if not all, testify to have a feeling of comfortable health in regularly taking in multivitamins. This is due to the synergistic or combined effects of the supplemental ingredients found in multivitamins. A fat-soluble antioxidant vitamin, like the Vitamin E, works to neutralize probable harmful free agents in the body. This vitamin also maintains healthy skin through protection of cell membranes, blood circulation, heart, nerves, red blood cells, and muscles.

Another antioxidant is the Vitamin C which effectively fights blood cell infection and is vital in collagen formation, wound healing, and formation of bone structures, capillaries, and teeth. Vitamin is also helpful in the iron absorption from plant sources. Vitamins A, D, K and other supplemental nutrients found in multivitamins have specific functions that benefit the bodily functions.

While daily intake of multivitamins may have proven beneficial, it is not a 100% guarantee to be free of serious illness attributed to other factors. It is often a misconception that symptoms of disease may always be cured by taking multivitamins. Health experts have the better opinion of immediate medical assistance rather than resorting to multivitamins alone.

SAM-E : The Effective Natural Antidepressant?

SAM-E is a natural supplement that has gotten some fairly decent exposure as an effective remedy for depression and anxiety lately. Although it is a "talked about" depression remedy, it has not received anywhere near the hype of the "other" natural antidepressant, called St. John's Wort.

The difference between the two supplements is that SAM-E is actually a man made compound, whereas St. John's Wort is a natural herb that is processed into caplets for consumption. SAM-E typically is in tablet form, like a vitamin, and is only potent and effective (supposedly), when it comes packaged in individually blister sealed packs.

I actually gave SAM-E a whirl at one point, when I started to experience feelings of depression and general blues, which was not my typical demeanor. I noticed I was more irritable, and had a sense that everything was working against me, so I decided to try a natural remedy for my obvious anxiety, irritability, and what I thought was mild depression.

I purchased a package of SAM-E in blister packs online. I think I paid about $28 for the package, which was one months worth. I took one tablet a day, which was 500 milligrams. I soon noticed that taking the supplement was giving me splitting headaches though, so I cut down the dosage to one half of a tablet every morning on an empty stomach.

I still got the splitting, nauseating headaches. I did notice that it seemed to help with my mood a little, but not enough to justify suffering the debilitating headaches. I also noticed a nearly constant tightness in my chest, which scared me into stop taking the supplement all together.
This reaction got me curious if others had experienced the same negative side effects of SAM-E, so I started looking online to see if there were any other similar stories to mine.

What I found were a lot of others who experienced the headaches, and yet others who also experienced the tightness in the chest area, and other side effects like gastrointestinal pain, nausea and some other less common symptoms. Some even complained that SAM-E actually made their depression worse, and made their anxiety reach almost unbearable levels.

There were also others that said SAM-E worked well for them, but they did experience negative side effects, and still others that said it made them feel better with no side effects at all, although these were unfortunately not in the majority, it seemed.

Since SAM-E is only recommended to be started off in lower dosages, it is alarming that many people report being advised to take dosages of 500-800 miligrams from the start. If you ever try this alternative to antidepressants, you should be cautious with the dosages at first, and maybe try starting off very low, then increasing the dose, but only if you experience no negative side effects.

It's difficult to say whether the side effects I experienced were due to an excessively high dosage (too much, too fast?), but they were bad enough that I considered the symptoms worse than the mild anxiety and depression I was experiencing, which was my personal reason for dicontinuation of the supplement.

So, what exactly is SAM-E, and how does it work, you ask? SAM-E (pronounced like the name "Sam" and the letter "e"), is short for it's chemical name, s-adenosymethianone. It is a synthetic form of a specific chemical which is found within the human body that is thought to help regulate mood.

SAM-E is marketed as a natural remedy for depression and anxiety, and an alternative to popular depression medications like Prozac and Paxil, which may have serious side effects, but it is also is taken by some individuals for heart and joint health.

While it may be recommended for mild to moderate depression, most physicians recommend against taking it for people with bipolar disorder, as it may push them into manic episodes.

Anti Aging Nutrition

To help slow down the effects of aging examining what you eat is a good start. You need to begin thinking about anti aging nutrition. Although that sounds somewhat trite the truth is that everything you put in your mouth has the potential to effect your health and your skin and so your emotional reactions to aging as well.

Anti aging nutrition must include an increase in vitamins. A study done in the late 1990s has proven that vitamin B is essential in resisting aging. This includes all three of the vitamin Bs, B6, B12 and folic acid.

These are important in keeping down the risks of heart disease and to assist with memory. They help to slow brain degeneration, as does taking ginkgo, which is also known to sharpen your wits and improve your memory. Vitamins C, D and calcium are also essential. These can all be taken in pill or capsule from or by increasing the foods that carry this essential anti aging nutrition for your body.

Some of the best foods you can eat include fruits and vegetables. That doesn't mean that you have to give up enjoying those meat and potato meals you love so much. Just add some extra vegetables to your meal. The beauty of eating lots of vegetables is that they are fat, cholesterol and salt free.

This is true of all vegetables except for avocados, olives and coconuts. That means that those ones should be eaten with less frequency while enjoying the others as often as you like. Diet suggestions for those who are approaching, and passing, middle age, say you should eat at least five servings of fruits or vegetables a day, but eight would be even better.

By following simple anti aging nutrition tips you will increase the fiber in your diet without increasing the calories. This also has the benefit of lowering your risks for many of the potential illnesses that reach out to us as we slide past middle age.

These include cancer, diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure. One thing we need as we age is antioxidants. These are found in fruits and vegetables as well as vitamin supplements. Antioxidants are helpful in protecting aging bodies from disease and that is one of the most important things you can do for yourself.

How To Treat A Cold

The common cold is a frequent and expensive disease, striking some people as many as 12 times a year, and leading to some 15 million days lost from work annually in the U.S. alone.

Children catch a cold the most six or eight episodes a year. In contrast, adults average two to four episodes a year, with a greater frequency found in those with children. What's a cold? A cold is a self-limiting viral infection of the respiratory tract typically marked by a scratchy, sore throat, followed by sneezing and a runny nose.

A person suffering a cold would usually have a body temperature that is normal or only slightly elevated. A mild cough may develop several days later. The cold virus can be spread easily. Tiny droplets in the air, such as from a cough or a sneeze, carry the virus from person to person. Direct personal contact, such as hand- shaking or kissing, transfer the virus as well.

Most colds strike in the fall and winter in temperate countries, and during the cooler rainy season in tropical countries. Researchers at the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) say that this is probably due to the greater time spent indoors in cold weather, increasing the opportunity for viruses to spread among people.

Also, the lower humidity during the colder months helps viruses thrive and may dry the lining of nasal passages, making people more susceptible to infection. Smoking, which destroys the mucosal lining of the respiratory tract, greatly increases the frequency of colds in adults.

Conventional treatment amazingly, modern medicine has not yet developed an efficient way to kill- cold viruses once they have invaded the body. Also, we do not acquire useful resistance to these viruses because there are over 200 of them, constantly mutating. The best way to handle a cold is to prevent it.

If despite precautions, you do get a cold, doctors advise that you take an over-the-counter medication to relieve symptoms such as a runny nose and cough. Most non- prescription cough-cold remedies contain a combination of ingredients to relieve multiple symptoms.

These combination products often contain anti-pyretics to reduce fever and analgesics to relieve minor aches, pains, and headaches. Many people rare convinced that taking vitamin C can prevent colds or relieve symptoms. There is no conclusive evidence of this, but the vitamin may reduce the severity or duration of symptoms, according to the NIAID. A word of caution: Taking vitamin C in large amounts over long periods can be harmful.

What a medical doctor will tell you
* Take an antipyretic and analgesic if your temperature is over 102 F or if you experience severe muscle pain or weakness. Rest.
* Take lots of fluids. Water and chicken soup relieve symptoms, Avoid sweetened drinks and milk products.
* If you are clogged-up, take a decongestant such as pseudoephedrine or oxymetazolIne. =>If you have profuse nasal discharge, take an antihistamine, such as diphenhydramine to dry up secretions.
* Take lozenges to relieve sore throat, zinc lozenges will stimulate immune system and destroy viruses .
* Take extra Vitamin C and A. Try taking garlic, Echinacea, and essential fatty acids to relieve symptoms and shorten course of illness.
* To avoid a cold, wash hands frequently and avoid humid, crowded plates, Do not touch nose, eyes, and mouth. Get into a good nutritional program.

What A Naturopathic Doctor Will Tell You
* If you have a fever, get lots of rest and Increase Intake if fluids Take multivitamins avoid cold, damp places Keep away from cold drinks.

Supplements for Prostate Health

Prostate disorders have become quite common among 21st century men. The number of diagnosed cases has escalated alarmingly, particularly in Western countries. With the increasing number of reported cases, researchers and scientists have developed various sets of treatment protocols to help manage conditions affecting the prostate gland.

However, maintaining a healthy prostate is still the best way to avoid having to undergo strenuous treatment tactics to manage these problems. In the past few years, supplements for prostate health have been made available to help men minimize their chances of developing any of these disorders.

Supplements for prostate health are not cures, they are habits and nutrients that can help improve a man's prostate health and thereby narrow his chances of acquiring prostate-related disorders such as prostatitis, enlarged prostate and even cancer. According to studies, nutrition is the most important factor both in the development and management of prostate gland diseases. Proper diet and a healthy lifestyle are believed to be key elements in maintaining a healthy prostate.

The prostate gland is part of the male reproductive system. It is located under the urinary bladder and in front of the rectum. The position of the prostate allows it to affect the processes of urination and ejaculation.

To maintain the health of the prostate gland, experts have claimed that excessive intake of animal-derived foods such as red meat and dairy products should be avoided. This claim is primarily based on statistics which showed that Western men have a higher percentage of prostate diseases compared with Asian men. Westerners are more inclined to have red meat in their diet, while Asians are more likely to eat vegetables and fruits.

Another factor that contributes to prostate health is lycopene. Lycopene is an antioxidant agent that can be found in tomatoes, guavas, watermelon and pink grapefruit. When it comes to minerals, zinc has been hailed as the most effective in helping lower a man's chances of developing prostate disorders.

Zinc can be found in shellfish, yeast and pumpkin seeds. Since men tend to lose zinc when they ejaculate, their need for this particular mineral is higher than that of women. A daily intake of 50 to 100 milligrams of zinc has been recommended by health experts to ensure a proper level of supply in the body.

Soy products are another of those groups of foods recommended to men, particularly those aged 45 and above. Some scientists have speculated that Japanese men have lower incidence of prostate cancer compared with American men because they have higher intakes of soy foods. Tofu, tempeh, miso and soy milk are common in most Japanese men's dietary programs.

Aside from their long-proven nutritional functions, soy products also contain two substances that seem to help fight cancer. These are genistein and isoflavinoids. These chemicals have been found to be particularly effective against hormone-dependent cancers like prostate cancer.
Most supplements for prostate health are found in ordinary natural foods that people can easily get their hands on. Even though these supplements cannot cure cancer, they can help in developing the defenses of men against prostate disorders.

Aloe Vera - The medical mystery of the friendly flora

Aloe Vera is a succulent, flowering, perennial plant from the Lily family. There are hundreds of species of Aloe plant but Aloe Vera Barbadensis Miller to use the full title is the one known as True Aloe.

It has been used for a wide variety of medicinal purposes throughout history. Modern pharmaceutical companies use extracts of Aloe Vera in many skin-based cosmetics, sited as a natural approach to cosmetics.

Aloe Vera is grown throughout the world, historically in drier tropical regions, and is used both for it's aesthetic beauty and other purposes. It is mainly known as a treatment for the skin, applied to cuts, burns, eczema, etc. The gel contained within the plant is widely recognised as the best source of the healing properties.

While modern science sometimes refutes the plant as having much medicinal value, it has been used throughout history, by ancient cultures all over the world and also by famous individuals. Nelson Mandela praises the plant and Christopher Columbus too (Aloe Health UK).

Aloe Vera contains enzymes that the body needs from foods, and a whole host of vitamins and minerals. It also contains plant steroids with analgesic, anti-inflammatory properties. In it's raw form, parts of the plant also act as a powerful laxative. Those who support Aloe Vera believe in its use as a drink or foodstuff and not just as a source of chemicals for health products, though unfortunately the raw plant has a bitter taste and is best to be prepared with fruits.

Aloe is still hotly debated in medicinal circles. There is evidence both for and against its restorative powers. The main problem with testing the effectiveness of the plant in speeding the recovery of wounds is that one cannot wound a person beyond minor incisions for the sake of medical trial. Nevertheless the tributes of ancient people, folklore and mythology give hope to the idea of using the plant as a healing aid.

Acai is a fruit that is taking the health-food industry by storm. The fruit is a small, back-purple berry type fruit that resembles a dark grape. The fruit grows on the Acai Palm, which is native to Central and South America in the tropical regions. The Acai Palms grow tall, around 15-20 meters, with 3 meter long leaves. Each branch of the tree produces and astonishing 700 to 900 fruits!

The Acai fruit is popular among health food enthusiasts because it is high in many important vitamins and minerals, including B vitamins, Omega-3 fatty acids, and anthocyanin.

Traditionally, Brazilians used the fruit to treat stomach disorders and skin conditions. The fruit is highly unstable when picked and rots easily, so it is rare to find the Acai fruit whole when you are not in the region where they are grown. Outside the tropics the fruit is usually found in either juice or pulp form. One popular use of the Acai fruit is to mix it in some sort of beverage. In North America, Acai is often blended into fruit smoothies and offered as a health drink.

Because Acai fruit are such a high source of antioxidants, health food proponents are selling many versions of them. The fruit also acts as a natural form of caffeine. Also, the high levels of Vitamin E in the fruit helps the immune system to function better. Some health food companies even claim that the Acai fruit helps with weight loss. And Acai fruit is a great place to find some of the essential fatty acids, such as Omega-3, Omega-6, and Omega-9.

The fruit helps blood circulation, and when needed can function as a natural form of viagra. Some people even use Acai as a facial astringent because the fruit has high anti-bacterial properties! Because of all these amazing health benefits, the fruit is sometimes called the "power berry." It is no wonder this amazing fruit is becoming so popular among health food enthusiasts.
Much study needs to be done about the possible health benefits of the Acai fruit.

A recent University of Florida study found that the Acai extracts caused cultured human leukemia cells to voluntarily self-destruct! It is unclear at this time if the fruit has the same effect on cancer cells when they are in the body, but the study had promising results. Labs around the country are starting to test the Acai to find what possible medical uses it has. There is no doubt that this amazing fruit has a promising future in the medical world.

Today, health food stores sell Acai extract that can be mixed in smoothies and drinks, as well as many pills containing Acai. The products promise the consumer everything, from extra energy to anti-aging benefits. While more study needs to be done to prove the effectiveness of some of these claims, there is no doubt that adding Acai to your diet will improve your overall and future health! Check with your local health food store and pick up some Acai today!

Vitamin A for Your Natural Fertility

Fertility is tied to your health and nutrition in surprising ways. I'm sure you know that you need to be eating well to have peak fertility. But are there some nutrients that have a more powerful impact on fertility than others?

Ancient cultures emphasized certain foods for women trying to conceive, and today science proves that there are nutrients in these same foods that are vital to female fertility. The fat soluble vitamins are taking center stage in fertility enhancement, and vitamin A is a star in the show.

Vitamin A has wide-ranging effects on female fertility. One exciting way it boosts fertility is by promoting better cervical fluid. Getting adequate vitamin A in your diet helps to assure you that your cervical fluid will be a sperm-nourishing, fertile consistency. It also increases the amount of fertile fluid.

As you know, the cervical fluid is what helps sperm travel up to meet your egg during the time you are trying to conceive. Because vitamin A deficiency can lead to little fertile fluid, getting enough vitamin A is vital to your reproductive health.

Vitamin A also helps ensure that your follicles develop properly. The follicles each hold an egg, and one follicle releases an egg every month. The follicle then produces hormones that aid the egg in implanting in your uterus. Without enough vitamin A, the follicle does not mature properly.

Traditional cultures did not know exactly how vitamin A-rich foods ensured the fertility of their women, but they did instinctively pick foods high in pure, natural vitamin A to feed to women who wanted to conceive.

Dr. Weston A. Price, for whom the Weston A. Price Foundation is named, studied cultures all over the world and found those with fertile women and vigorous, healthy babies gave special foods to couples trying to conceive. These foods included fish roe, organ meats, deep yellow butter, and shellfish - all rich sources of vitamin A!

Today vitamin A can be gained from these sources as well as through a daily cod liver oil supplement. Plant sources of vitamin A are not as well absorbed and converted as the body needs them to be. If you have heard that vitamin A leads to birth defects, a careful study of the medical literature will reveal that these are caused by synthetic vitamin A - stay away from it.

Ensuring that you get all the fat-soluble vitamins that you need (and enough healthy fats to absorb them!) will speed your journey on the road to maximum fertility. Vitamin A is especially vital for all parts of your reproductive cycle. Be sure that you are including vitamin A rich foods in your diet every week. Consider a supplement for every day - especially if you don't have enough cervical fluid or you're not sure you're ovulating!

Antioxidants Prescription

Antioxidants are advertised by many but few ever have the whole range of antioxidants that your body needs. Antioxidants are those chemical substances naturally found in plants. They serve as your first line of defense against illness and aging.

Oxidation is a process that our bodies normally undergo. It is that process which allows us to function properly, to breathe, to move. But what is good for us may also have negative effects to our bodies.

Oxidative damage can result from the production of excess oxygen byproducts called free radicals that react with our healthy cells, causing cellular damage and leading to degenerative diseases. Our bodies are naturally protected by a defense system against oxidative damage, however, human beings are one of the few animals that cannot produce the amount of antioxidants necessary to combat the accumulation of free radicals in our bodies.

The Right Prescription
Recent studies have shown that free radicals are linked to various diseases, such as cancer, arthritis, atherosclerosis, heart disease, and even aging. With the right antioxidant formula, you can very well prevent the onset of these diseases, even to the extent of age reversal. Several researchers believe that antioxidant formulas are best if derived from fresh produce such as fruits and vegetables.

Vitamins and Vitamin-forming Compounds
Some antioxidant Prescriptioncontains substances that are familiar to us, like vitamins or vitamin-forming compounds. Vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin A, Coenzyme Q, and carotenoids, these are but a few of the ingredients found in an antioxidant formula.

Vitamin E, C, A, coenzyme Q10, and carotenoids found in antioxidant formulas must be constantly replenished through the diet. The body manufactures others, but the levels of many of these can be bolstered through dietary supplements.

Vitamin A for instance is required for night vision, and for healthy skin. Many believe as well that consuming antioxidant formulas that contain vitamin A helps slow aging.

New studies show that antioxidants don't often play its role in isolation. Scientists have found that antioxidants work best when they are working in conjunction with other antioxidants. There is in fact a dynamic interplay among the systems with various antioxidant cycles acting to prevent cell damage and disease. So, an antioxidant Prescriptionthat contains as much antioxidant types possible is the best way to go for.

The body's defense mechanism is composed of various antioxidants with different functions. Antioxidant formulas have been formulated to contain all the antioxidants that research has found necessary for effective detoxification.

Lutein - Natural Carotenoid

Lutein is an antioxidant that comes from the carotenoid family. Lutein is one of over 600 known naturally occurring carotenoids. Lutein is found in a variety of plants and green leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale, broccoli, bilberries, grapes etc.

Lutein is also present in eggs and in corn and is partly responsible for the yellow color they have. Lutein is an antioxidant that can help reduce harmful free radicals that can occur in cells and may contribute to cell damage.

Lutein can also filter or absorb cell-damaging, high-energy blue light in your eye. These defensive qualities enable lutein to defend your eye's retina, your skin and other organs and tissues in your body.Lutein is very important in our body because since it is an antioxidant, it comes out to extinguish or lessen any damaging free radical in some part of the body, which may cause different kinds of chronics illnesses.

The only difference of lutein from other vitamins and nutrients is that the human body cannot manufacture it. As a result, people must acquire the luteins that they needed through the sources of lutein such as foods or any kind of supplement preferably natural herbal supplements.

Lutein may help protect cells from damage and has the ability to filter some of the harmful light from the sun. Lutein is present in both the lens and the macular region of the eye - that is, the eye tissues are responsible for central vision.

Benefits of LuteinLutein was found to be present in a concentrated area of the macula, a small area of the retina responsible for central vision. The hypothesis for the natural concentration is that lutein helps protect from oxidative stress and high-energy light.

* Lutein is a great antioxidant that offers defense from free radicals that roots many kinds of diseases.
* Lutein strains out damaging lights from sun.
* Lutein Shields the eyes against cataract.
* Lutein may be used to treating a person affected with cataract.
* Lutein helps to treat macular deterioration.
* Lutein also serves as an anti-cancer instrument - this rip the danger of early signs of colon cancer.
* Lutein also protects the body against bad cholesterol.
* Lutein reduces osteoarthritis pains, lessens arthritis and helps in maintaining the arteries clean.

These benefits can be acquired from lutein since it is a strong source of antioxidant, thus contradicting any free radical harm. If this is left unimpeded, those free radicals can cause damages directing to some serious diseases such as heart diseases, some types of cancer and untimely aging.

The Benefits of Omega 3 Fish Oil

Much recent research points to the benefits of Omega 3 fish oil for cardiovascular, neurological and overall health and wellbeing. The evidence is so overwhelming that the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) now recommends including fish oil as part of a healthy, balanced diet regimen.

Unlike the oil from other sources, fish oil contains two of the most beneficial Omega 3 fatty acids, docosahexaenoic (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic (EPA). These long-chained fatty acids cannot be obtained from any other sources, which is why fish oil has been the topic of so much discussion of late.

One of the major points of debate has been whether you are better off eating a lot of cold water fish such as cod, salmon and hoki or getting pure Omega 3 fatty acids through supplementation. Although experts have different opinions, studies show that you will probably reap the most benefits with fish oil capsules, as long as they are high quality and contain optimal levels of the two essential fatty acids.

Some of the many Omega 3 fish oil benefits include preventing the onset of heart disease, lowering cholesterol, relieving inflammation, improving eyesight and enhancing cognitive function. It has also been shown to be helpful in reducing the risk of certain cancers, and helping with conditions such as arthritis and depression.

Including fish with high Omega 3 content in your diet is definitely a good choice, but there are a few things to keep in mind. First, due to poor manufacturing and handling processes, much of the fish we eat is depleted of nutrients by the time it hits the ice bin in your local store or fish market. That means much of the Omega 3 content is no longer present.

Another consideration is the potential for mercury contamination, and the presence of other harmful toxins. That is why pregnant women and young children are advised against eating fish.
So in order to reap the maximum Omega 3 fish oil benefits through your diet, you'd have to eat an enormous amount of fish, and you'd be increasing your risk of toxin exposure exponentially.
As such, you are probably better off with high quality fish oil capsules, harvested from fish with high levels of DHA and EPA. The better supplements will be purified so that there is no contamination, and encapsulated in such as way as to preserve the integrity of the oil within, ensuring that you can reap the maximum fish oil benefits.

Although fish oil capsules can leave a bitter taste in your mouth, at least you know you are getting pure Omega 3 fatty acids. Most people find that they get used to them after a short period of time. If you are interested in supplementation, make sure you buy from a reputable company, and ensure that the product does in fact have DHA and EPA in it, in high concentrations.

One is for sure...no matter how you get it, Omega 3 fish oil can do wonders for your health!

Garden Of Life - Whole Food In A Capsule

Nutritional supplement is one of the hottest products in the market these days. It is estimated that more than half of adult Americans use vitamin supplements regularly.

Many people also consume mineral supplements, digestive enzymes and herbal supplements. But are all supplements made equal? While many manufacturers are producing cheap isolated vitamins and mineral supplements, Garden of Life is setting a new standard in nutritional supplements with all natural whole food ingredients.

Garden of Life products include broad spectrum probiotic formula with beneficial live microorganisms, broad spectrum digestive enzymes, super green formula packed with antioxidant green grasses, micro algae, whole vegetables and their juice, broad-base whole food vitamin and mineral supplements containing whole fruits, vegetables, mushroom and herbs, and other functional foods.

The advantages of whole food supplements are easy to explain. First of all, they are more like food than isolated vitamins. They are easier to absorb and metabolize, and less likely to cause toxic effect due to overdose. Secondly, they contain micronutrients and phytonutrients that are absent in isolated or synthetic vitamins and minerals. Some of these nutrients are cofactors required for proper absorption and assimilation of essential nutrients.

Some active phytonutrients work synergistically, i.e. their beneficial effects increase when they are consumed together. Some nutrients are not biologically active themselves, but potentiate the effects of other active ingredients.

These premium whole food supplements are not made without a price. For example, Garden of Life Living Multi is a natural vitamin & mineral supplement with 76 whole food concentrates. While cheap multi-vitamin supplements are only $10 per bottle, Garden of Life Living Multi costs you 4-5 times more. But when it comes to health and nutrition, there is something else to consider other than the price. The question is: would you prefer isolated vitamins and minerals and take them as "drugs" or a complete matrix of food nutrients found in nature?
